After practicing full-scope obstetrics and gynecology with a focus on minimally invasive gynecologic surgery for over 11 years in both the military and civilian sectors, I knew that I needed to change how I practice medicine if I wanted a sustainable career. I’ve always loved surgery and felt a strong pull towards shifting my medical career to one that allows me to not only take care of patients, but to also be able to take care of my family and my own well-being.
Shortly after leaving my OBGYN practice, I was introduced to Sono Bello. I was able to visit a surgical center during my recruitment process to see what the day of a Sono Bello surgeon was like and after watching several surgeries and seeing the instant transformations, I knew this was the right decision for me.

Sono Bello Aesthetic Fellowship Program Minimally Invasive Body Contouring
I have been practicing general and bariatric surgery for nearly a decade prior to joining Sono Bello. Even during that short time, I have witnessed the healthcare landscape change considerably. The time and effort dedicated toward administrative and regulatory duties particularly associated with larger healthcare systems continues to grow.
This limits the time available to spend with patients and operating which is where we as surgeons can make the biggest difference. This left me feeling undervalued and underutilized. Sono Bello understands and appreciates the value each of us brings and leverages that value so that we can make a bigger impact in our patient’s lives. The Sono Bello Aesthetic Fellowship provides an extensive training by some of the most experienced and talented surgeons in the field. The attention to detail and commitment to quality not only during fellowship but also during normal operation is staggering particularly for a "non-academic" enterprise. This approach optimizes cosmetic outcomes leaving patients transformed, physically and psychologically.

Sono Bello Aesthetic Fellowship Program Minimally Invasive Body Contouring
After practicing general surgery for over 30 years, the last 16 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in rural Minnesota, along with the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, I was mentally ready to retire. Yet I still enjoyed many aspects of surgery. As I was pondering my future, I came across a unique company, Sono Bello, leaders in art of body contouring. Today, I am so thankful for Sono Bello offering me the opportunity to learn a new skill while allowing me to incorporate years of surgical experience. After completing a challenging, but thorough fellowship program and interacting with an outstanding administrative team, I have been re-invigorated to start a new chapter of my surgical career. These days, I am grateful to provide a service that benefits the lives of patients by enhancing their appearance and improving their image of self-worth.

After practicing General surgery and then Acute Care and Trauma surgery, I felt that it was time for a change. The rigors of the General Surgery Lifestyle were taking their toll on me. 24 yrs of nights, holidays, and weekends, I felt it was time for a change.
The Sono Bello Fellowship Opportunity arose, and I felt that it was the right fit for the lifestyle and career change that I needed.
After graduating from the Fellowship, I felt that I was extremely well trained to perform the needed procedures with efficiency, skill, and technical abilities necessary to meet our patient's needs while achieving the work-life balance needed.

I decided to join Aesthetic physicians and the Sono Bello team after having a series of talks and meetings with my recruiter plus several physician leaders. I soon realized that this was the right path for me to take, to join a company that not only cares for its client patients but also safeguards its team members and pays especial attention to its staff physicians.
At the time, I had been a skilled surgeon for over 13 years with extensive experience in other areas but limited knowledge on body sculpting. This is where the strength of the Sono Bello fellowship stands on: The program ensures that the surgeon undergoes a supervised hands-on, fast-paced but still rigorous and very competitive training in aesthetic liposuction with excess skin removal. One’s knowledge, skills, confidence and expertise grow daily as the fellowship advances.
I was privileged to train with Dr Siemian in the Orlando, Florida center. He is a dedicated world class and highly experienced plastic and aesthetic surgeon. The Orlando clinical and clerical staff were also extremely helpful and supportive during the weeks of hard work training.
Today, Dr Siemian’s teachings, wisdom and guidance as a professor and the hard work and dedication I placed into the program is paying off. The job is extremely rewarding now as we see the body changes that are bringing lots of happiness and satisfaction to my patients as they are reporting. I am blessed to be part of such an amazing team at Sono Bello. I highly recommend the fellowship training to future surgeons desiring to become experts in the art of body sculpting.

“After retiring from the military, I continued to develop trauma and critical care services for my community. I find fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of my patients. Sono Bello offered an opportunity to continue this endeavor while becoming more of a presence in the lives of my spouse and young children.
"When I realized that ‘throttle forward’ was my only choice as a trauma surgeon, I found by chance a communication from Melody Huddleston. Sono Bello made an offer that felt right to my family. I struggled with doubt, but my faith made it abundantly and irrefutably the clear choice.” I was honored to complete my fellowship with the most experienced surgeon in the company. We are physical beings, the impact of the changes possible is far reaching and I am honored to be a part of Sono Bello’s mission.

In short, Although I loved the practice of General and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, the increasing demands on my time to meet unrealistic measures had soured my enjoyment of the practice of surgery. I was burning out fast and needed a change. However, I couldn't see myself as anything other than a surgeon. It is what I’ve been doing for the past 27 years. I was considering retiring all together. Then I came across this ad from Sono Bello on Doximity and wondered if this could re-kindle my love of the art of medicine and surgery.
I am so glad that Sono Bello gave me this opportunity to explore this possibility of a new reinvigoration of my surgical career. The Team at the San Antonio Center is top notch and re define the word professionalism. It was my honor to be Dr Schaner's fellow as he never missed an opportunity to teach through my experiences and decisions. He made me believe this was possible. Thanks Pat. There is not one case in my residency training that I experienced as much as I have experienced here in my Sono Bello fellowship. I feel well prepared to go forward and transform patients’ lives for the better without having to deal with the constellation of red tape that Third party payor medicine has turned into. Thank you, Sono Bello, Dr Schaner, and the whole team at San Antonio for giving me a new lease on my career as a surgeon. What a privilege it is to do what we do. And now I get to do this with Sono Bello.

After working most of my career as an employed General Surgeon in a hospital system in which I became burned out, I decided to do independent contracting as an Acute Care and Trauma Surgeon. During this time, a recruiter from Sono Bello reached out to me to inquire if I had any interest in pursuing a new skillset in body contouring. Having always had an appreciation for art in addition to finding enjoyment in learning new surgical procedures, I thought this would be the perfect fit for me. Working with and training under Dr. Robert Centeno in Troy, Michigan, was a very rewarding experience that has broadened my scope of practice. I enjoy seeing the difference I make in my patients’ lives.
