Valerie Lemaine, MD

Dr. Valerie Lemaine, M.D., M.P. H. is a French-Canadian, double board-certified plastic surgeon who works in Raleigh, NC. She is the Lead Surgeon of the Sonobello Raleigh office. A native Montrealer with a Haitian heritage, Dr. Lemaine earned multiple degrees including a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, a Doctorate of Medicine from University of Montreal and a Master of Public Health at Columbia University. She also completed a Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dr. Lemaine began her surgical career in 2010 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester (MN), where she performed complex oncologic reconstruction and helped develop and expand the Breast Reconstruction and Microsurgery programs, while also acting as Vice Chair for Research and teaching residents. She then spent five years in private practice in the Twin Cities, joining Minnesota Oncology and Plastic Surgery Consultants, to continue her breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery work.

Dr. Lemaine loves music! Her first live music concert was David Bowie when she was 12 years old. When not operating, Dr. Lemaine enjoys music, visual arts, yoga and bodybuilding. She is an accomplished classically trained pianist and an avid art collector. She has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and is supporting emerging artists in North Carolina.

A sought-after speaker, Dr. Lemaine is a nationally and internationally invited lecturer in plastic surgery and breast reconstruction topics and has authored numerous plastic surgery peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Lemaine has been named “Top Doctor” and “Best Doctor for Women” every year going back to 2014. Dr. Lemaine’s medical philosophy is to always give her patients the most natural-looking results with the shortest possible recovery times. Her focus for every patient is to provide attention to detail, an artistic eye, technical excellence, and safe, compassionate care.
